Intensive Summer Programs

Foam on mirrors, obstacle courses, exploding paint, laser beams, pegboards, virtual reality computer games …

Our two-week programs comprise of daily, hour-long sessions led by occupational therapists. We customize each child’s program to meet their specific needs within the scope of the following small groups:

MiW Therapy

Fine Motor Ferry

The camp where little hands develop fine motor and handwriting readiness skills. This program’s sensory motor component stresses whole-body exercises, while the fine motor stations develop pre-writing, grasp and scissor skills.

Printing Expedition I

Students learn how to form letters correctly and where to position them on the writing line. Five letter groups, taught in sequence, are reinforced first through gross and then fine motor exercises. Postural control, grasp development and position on the writing surface are emphasized.

Printing Expedition II

The focus of this expedition is to promote consistent letter formation and improve writing speed. Initial instruction follows the same practices as used above, but at a faster pace. Spatial organization strategies for writing sentences are also incorporated.

Cursive Cruise I

Students learn four basic approach strokes for producing cursive letters. Once a group of letters is mastered, the next set is introduced. Emphasis is on developing correct letter forms, consistent slant, fluid letter connections and proper placement on the writing lines.

Cursive Cruise II

Pre-requisite: Cursive Cruise I. Students work toward mastery by reviewing and practicing cursive letter formations and connections within functional writing contexts. Focus is on developing automatic recall and establishing a rhythmic tempo for fluency.

Keyboarding Kayak

Students learn proper keyboarding technique through direct instruction, multisensory techniques and individualized worksheets. Typing software is incorporated once students demonstrate the correct key reaches to increase speed and accuracy. In addition, students will gain working knowledge of Microsoft Word, including: formatting, inserting pictures and symbols, editing, hyperlink creation and creating tables.

Enrollment

All campers are met prior to enrollment to determine eligibility and appropriate placement.

Due to our exclusively low camper to instructor ratio of 3 campers to 1 therapist, spaces are limited and are offered on a first-come, first serve basis.
