SERVICES
Pre-Writing
Learning to write is a complex process because it requires children to use several physical and cognitive processes at once. They have to grasp the pencil and control its movements, follow a specific sequence for creating a letter, appropriately space the letters on a line and write at an acceptable speed.
Assessment and development of the following performance components is an ongoing process for each student:
* Postural stability * Visual perception * Motor planning
* Body awareness * Fine motor control
Handwriting
Move into Writing is a highly effective program designed to teach
children how to write letters accurately and fluently. Through multisensory
activities that incorporate gross and fine motor skill development, we
directly address handwriting instruction as well as target the
underlying issues that contribute to poor handwriting.
Program features:
- Four basic strokes that sort the alphabet letters into logical groups
- Cartoon characters, songs and animated stories to illustrate and
reinforce letter formations
- Integrated techniques that focus on correct letter placement and
spatial organization
- Kinesthetic, visual and auditory techniques to reinforce motor
patterns
- Worksheets for guided practice to enable the student to gain skill
and mastery
Keyboarding
Typing is taught in a logical and effective way using the alphabetic sequence. The interactivity of technology combined with traditional
teaching methods enables students to learn at their own pace.
Bicycle Riding
Individual or group bike riding instruction focuses on building confidence and unlearning training wheel dependency.
Lessons are tailored to suit each child and may include a combination of activities within our clinic and direct practice on the bicycle.
Interactive Metronome
The Interactive Metronome is a computer-based program that aims to improve attention, motor planning, coordination and timing.
Improved IM performance positively correlates with academic achievement in areas such as mathematics, language, reading and attention.
Auditory Integration
The Listening Program involves the use of specialized classical music to decrease auditory defensiveness and
improve auditory discrimination, body awareness and sequencing. The program is carried out on a daily basis at home with ongoing consultation.
Assistive Technology
Assistive Technology devices and equipment can enhance the functional capabilities of students with motor, sensory,
communication and cognitive impairments. We provide assessment, selection, acquisition, in-depth skills training and functional classroom and community use of AT devices.
